Job Description:
Project Manager Fire Alarm reports to the Territory Manager and is responsible for all aspects of projects including management of contractor sales, cost control on projects, project management, material preparation, work scheduling, and project breakdown. The Project Manager Fire Alarm will also assist with sales and sales estimation.
- Project management within the territory of Ottawa/Gatineau sector and outlining regions. Project Manager will be involved in projects that have a certain revenue or complexity.
- Submission of verbal and written reports covering sales forecasts, competitor activity and products, any potential customer product, service and system needs and economic climate of territory.
- Design Fire Alarm Systems including floor plan layouts, battery calculations, voltage drop calculations and typical wiring diagrams.
- Read and interpret blueprints, block diagrams, engineering drawings, specifications, schematics and operational/product manuals for fire alarm systems. Create building fire alarm riser diagrams.
- Business development as well as assist other sales professionals on the team with estimation and pricing for customer RFPs and large projects.
- Establish contact and build relationships with clients, technicians, and subcontractors.
- Experience or aptitude to price and prepare proposal for fire alarm and security systems as well as service and maintenance follow up.
- Develop presentations and meet with potential clients, electrical contractors, and electrical engineers.
- Manage the equipment ordering and delivery process.
- Manage, coordinate and facilitate multiple electronics projects.
- Prepare and track job costs to completion.
- Coordinate field, corporate and subcontract resources, in conjunction with Service, to solve technical, programming or other problems relating to the commissioning of the systems.
- Attend staff, construction and engineering meetings.
- Verify labour and equipment costs associated with projects.
- Generate weekly reports of assigned projects, including current status and manpower.
- Perform other related duties, as necessary.
Technical Support
- Maintain up-to-date catalogue information for supplier products.
- Review all technical updates.
- Maintain supplier pricing lists.
Meetings
- Attend and participate in general meetings (sales and operations).
- Prepare agenda, post notice and participate in monthly technical meetings.
- Prepare project status schedules.
- Attend job showings.
Minimum Requirements:
- 10+ years experience in the fire alarm industry demonstrating progressive responsibilities.
- 3+ years supervisory experience.
- Must be able to clear a government security clearance check. This is a requirement.
- Graduate in electronic technology.
- Fully bilingual in French and English.
- Canadian Fire Alarm Association Certification (CFAA).
- Understanding of the current fire alarm system technology.
- Understanding of the Ontario and National Building, Fire Codes, NFPA codes and all applicable ULC standards. ULC S524, ULC S536, ULC S537.
- Knowledge of the building code requirement with installing building fire alarm, security door devices (Maglock), Burglar, Card access, Nurse call and communication door entry system.
- Knowledge of the building code and fire code requirement for fire monitoring systems per ULC S561 and ULC S559.
- Building lock down system per building code requirement.
- Manufacture training for Building Integration System (BIS):
- Experience in meeting with contractors, AHJ, and end users.
- Proficient in reading and understanding architectural, mechanical, electrical blueprints and diagrams, specifications and contracts.
- Experience in maintaining project documentation, including as-built drawings, change order pricing, RFPs.
- Prefer Nurse Call system knowledge, Carehawk, Tektone, Austco, Aiphone etc.
- Prefer intrusion monitoring system equipment knowledge, DSC, Paradox, Honeywell.
- Fire alarm monitoring system equipment knowledge, DSC, Honeywell.
- Fire alarm system Notifier, Kidde etc equipment knowledge.
- Prefer Door Security Locking Devices installation knowledge per building code and fire code.
- Prefer Card access system, Position Technologies, Kantech, Honeywell equipment knowledge and building code requirement.
- Prefer PA system, Toa, Carehawk, Boggen system knowledge.
- Prefer Door Entry system, Kantech, Mircom equipment knowledge.
- Prefer experience to work with IT Building Group to perform integration of CCTV, Door entry System, Card Access system, intrusion system, security door devices release system and interface to fire alarm system.
- Proficient computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook and AutoCad.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills, verbal and written communication skills with experience in writing detailed technical reports.
- Good understanding of general construction practices.
- Must have a valid G driver’s license.
